Pretty Hate Machine (2010)

Pretty Hate Machine reissue Nov. 22

Blasted today upon the Twittertubes was an announcement that Nine Inch Nails’ Pretty Hate Machine is getting reissued on Novermber 22. The landmark first album will be reprinted on CD and vinyl (and digitally, of course, this is Trent Reznor) with “reinterpreted” artwork. These are the original mixes, remastered by Reznor and Tom Baker “for a grealy improved sonic experience”.

Read the full post on nin.com, and go to Amazon to preorder the CD version.

I put an ‘E’ at the end of his name and turned him into a boat.

Between the Heart and the Synapse reissue cover

Between the Heart and the Synapse reissue Nov. 9

For those unaware, one of the very best albums of the last decade, Between the Heart and the Synapse by The Receiving End of Sirens is getting re-released on November 9, including on vinyl for the first time. In addition to the glorious sound of vinyl for an album that richly deserves it, the reissue will include a new song recorded this year, and three videos from the band’s reunion at the 2010 Skatefest in Worcester, MA.

You can preorder the vinyl from Triple Crown Records, or a deluxe edition on iTunes.

Brendan (and occasionally other members) has been updating a new Tumblr page for the band quite regularly and answering a lot of fan questions. I highly recommend that you check it out if you’re into TREOS. If you look through it, you’ll find some links to some great gems like the band’s first EP and some other rare tracks.

If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.

Jimmy Eat World 2010-10-15

Jimmy Eat World @ House of Blues Boston, October 15, 2010

Got a text around 9:30 in the morning from my friend Kevin, asking me if he wants his extra ticket for the Jimmy Eat World show last night. Naturally, I accepted his offer.

The opening band was We Were Promised Jetpacks, from Scotland. Apparently they had some issues arriving at the show; driving from the previous show in New York, they stopped to gas up their van and accidentally put diesel in it instead of gas. Boom, dead van. They were able to harness the power of the internet to get some kind folks to drive them to the show. They played a short set because of all of the troubles, but I was duly impressed with their songs and the singer’s intensity. I’m going to try to find out if they have any vinyl records to snap up.

As for the main event, Jimmy Eat World was as good as ever. Courtney Marie Andrews, who provided vocals on several of the songs on Invented, performed with the band on quite a bit of the material, adding vocals and occasional keyboards. The set was a decent mix of new and old material, including a 9 minute rendition of “Goodbye Sky Harbor” similar to how it was performed on the Clarity x 10 tour, with Jim layering vocals and some guitar. Really great performance all around.

The guitar nerd in me would be upset if I failed to mention Jim’s natural-finish Fender JA-90, which of course only he owns at this point. It looks phenomenal, and I want 12 of them. I have heard a rumor that the natural finish may join the black and red already in production, but obviously this remains to be seen.

Check out the photos and videos I captured at the show below the setlist.

Um, guys. You can stop making music videos now. The best music video that has ever been and will ever be made… has been made.

Also, it’s fitting that the name of this group is Holy Fuck, because holy fuck, this is the best music video ever.

True Then, True Now

Now more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature.
